The Lost Gardens of Heligan are located in Cornwall, United Kingdom. The estate was at its height in the end of the 19th century- it was full of varieties of foliage and gardens from all over the world. Above is a section called The Jungle. The gardens became dilapidated during World War I and were virtually asleep until 1991 when they were resurrected. The website is wonderful and worth a peek-

It makes me think of Frances Hodgson Burnett’s book The Secret Garden, the fairy tale Sleeping Beauty, and The Hidden people from Lian Hearn’s Tales of the Otori.. Ursula Le Guin writes about this archetypal hidden place as well- that it is a restorative and internal place- perhaps its an escape-
